Itinerary
Drive to Genekha Village: Start the day with a 45-minute drive to Genekha Village, known for producing matsutake and chanterelle mushrooms.
Trek Begins: Begin trekking along a mule path through terraced fields and coniferous forests, rich with alpine flora and birdlife.
River Descent and Uphill Climb: Descend to the river, then embark on a 2-hour gradual uphill climb to a rock platform at 3,350m, offering picturesque valley views.
Reach Campsite at Gur: After another 2 hours of trekking, arrive at your campsite at Gur (3,290m), surrounded by an abundance of wildflowers.
Trekking across the Ridges: Trek through rugged mountain vegetation, with wildflowers, wild asparagus (in spring), and large meadows, offering a refreshing experience.
Gentle Climb Through Birches and Rhododendrons: Weave through tiny streams, climbing gently through birch and rhododendron trees to reach Pagalabtsa Pass (4,250m), marked by large cairns.
Spectacular Views: From the pass, enjoy breathtaking views of Kanchenjunga (Sikkim) and other Bhutanese Himalayan peaks.
Descent and Yak Herders’ Camps: Descend from the pass and pass by the Dagala range meadows and yak herder camps. Enjoy a lunch at a yak herder’s camp.
Continue to Labatama Valley: Descend into Labatama valley and gradually ascend, passing more yak herder huts until you reach Utsho Lake (4,300m), where golden trout are abundant.
Campsite by the Lake: Set up camp beside the serene Utsho Lake.
Explore Nearby Lakes: Spend the day exploring one of the nearby lakes, such as Relitsho, Hentsho, Setsho, or Jagetsho, all rich in trout. Your trekking leader will share mystic stories about the lakes and their significance.
Lakeside Lunch: Enjoy lunch by the lakeside, surrounded by spectacular views, making for a memorable experience in nature.
Optional Climb to Jomo Peak: After lunch, you can attempt to climb Jomo Peak (5,050m) for even more breathtaking vistas of the surrounding area.
Return to Camp: Head back to camp by dusk to rest and prepare for the next day of your trek.
Hike to Saddle (4520m): Enjoy panoramic views of peaks like Everest, Kanchenjunga, and Jichu Drake.
Descend to Doccha Chuu River: Pass yak herder huts and follow the river.
Camp at Panka (4000m): Arrive at Panka, where you’ll camp surrounded by yaks and Himalayan monals.
Cross Several Passes: Enjoy breathtaking views and flora, including blue poppies and mountain birds.
Lunch Stop: At the junction where one trail leads to Talakha and the other to Wangduephodrang.
Climb to Tale La (4180m): Stunning views of the Dagala Range and Thimphu valley.
Long Descent: Through spruce, birch, juniper, and rhododendron forests to Talakha Goempa (3080m).
Final Descent: Pass apple orchards and mixed vegetation, ending at Chamgang Village.
Transfer to Thimphu: Your car will be waiting to take you back.
